Default need help on Fairbanks Morse

Hi, I got this engine with a bunch of engines I bought and I would like some information on it. I couldn't find out anything about it in Wendel big yellow book. I would like to know what use it was made for and a ball park figure of what it is worth. It has an old restoration but has gotten tight again. I have it soaking with diesel fuel. Thanks Harry for the great sight and thanks for the help. Kevin

Sweet looking engine! Value is a very tricky subject, isn't it? Kind of depends....

Check this out. There is a great section on carbs and mixers, and more. Look at the page on Air Friction carburetors. Your carb isn't identical, but shares quite a few features with the one featured. http://www.oldengine.org/members/allen/techindex.html

I believe you have a Fairbanks-Morse marine engine, headless Type E. Made in singles rated 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hp & twins of 5 to 7 hp. 7 hp specs: 3 3/4" stroke x 3 3/4" bore, 800 rpm. Weight about 203 lbs. Should have a brass 1" Schebler D updraft carb, most had a gear driven rotary water pump. Hit & Miss has a 4 page pamphlett & a little info in Wendel's 100 Years of Fairbanks Morse. I think these engines were manufactured in Toronto, Canada. In the condition it is in, value maybe $500; restored with correct parts & running $1500 ... just guesses on value.
