Photo John Deere E question

I'm not very familiar with John Deere engines, today one found its way home with me and the guy I got it from knew next to nothing about engines but he was sure it wasn't a JD and for what he was asking I wasn't going to argue. When I got it home I was comparing it to an E that belongs to my dad, on my dads engine his has John Deere cast right into the side cover and mine does not. Is mine just a little earlier and they had not starting casting JD into the cover yet? Or was it possibly sold under a different name? this side cover is the only diference that I can see so it's quite clear that they came from the same factory, I just wonder why mine doesn't have the John Deere on it.

Thanks!

Waterloo built them for JD and they bought the works so at a certain moment they used their own name I guess.

Hi all, whilst on the John Deere E topic: There is a JD E type on Ebay Australia, item no. 7519752240 which must rate as one of the dearest John Deeres in history! $6000 Aus dollars seems very steep to me. When you consider the exchange rate this equates to around $7800 US! I know that John Deere engines are very scarce down here in Oz, but at this price I will have to go without.

I guess I did okay for $350.00, that one must be a 6hp.
