Default FMZ carb question - air pulses

I got my dish pan 2hp fmz back together with a new valve. It runs good, but I have a question. While running, you can feel pulses of air blowing out above the carb choke plate (air going the wrong way out) while running. Is this normal for these engines to do this? It did it before with the previous intake valve. Is the intake valve not sealing well enough?

It could be that the puff of air coming out of the choke plate is what blows back before the intake valve closes. Since the intake valve is totally controlled by suction, it stands to reason that it will blow back a little.

A weak intake valve spring could make it worse but, as long as your engine runs okay, I wouldn't worry about it.

Take care - Elden

I did put in a new intake spring and like I said, it did it before too. I suppose its a balance between having too strong of a spring (closes faster but opens slower) and too weak (closes slower but opens faster).
