Default Cushman year

I have a 2hp massey harris cushman engine Model R14 engine no. A10041. Can anyone tell me the year it was made or the years this type was produced? Is there a list for this type of engine as I know of several others. Thanks

Hi Mark.
Massey sold the Cushman engines (vertical & horizontal) from 1936 to 1952. The "R" types came as R-14 (2 hp), R-20 (3 hp) & R-30 (4 hp). Approx. shipping weight of the 2 hp was 225 lbs. A couple of guys were keeping an engine registry at one time but I think they've both given up on it. It seems all the sn#'s have an 'A' for a letter prefix, regardless of model size , with some having no letter prefix at all. I have seen an R-14 with sn#A9xxx (4 digits) up to sn#A137xxx (6 digits). I believe M-H assigned consecutive serial numbers to each engine built regardless of hp size but I don't know where they started. Since your sn# is a low 5-digit number, I would hazard a guess that it was built before 1940 at least. Hope this helps some.

Andrew....
