Question Wendel's Notebook

i have been reading the smokestak for quite awhile and keep reading about people refering to wendels note book! is this book different than the american gasoline engines since 1872? if so i would sure like to know where to get the note book people refer to. it seems loaded with more information. thanks for the great site HARRY

Yes Jim it's different, and I believe much cheaper and still available. I know it has lists of numbers so you will know what your orphan webster mag bracket fits and things lie that. Sorry I'm not more help, but I'm sure someone else will chime in here before long. Kevin

There were two different printings of Wendel's Notebook that I know of. I have an early one and was selling the later one up until they quit printing them. I don't know of any that are available other than used.

I see interest in Wendells book everywhere I go and talk about engines. The publisher should do a reprint.

I picked a copy up at Coolspring last fall from Lee Pedersen. He had a handful of them at his booth. I've seen enough copies around at various shows that I wasn't aware that they were out of print .Well, there's always eBay...one is bound to pop up there once in a while .

I just saw Lee Pederson today and he still has copies of "Wendels Notebook" on sale. He is a sponsor listed here on Harry's. So.... if you want one just order from Lee. Sorry, i did not notice the price. Reasonable, I am sure.

Don't know about the Notebook but I see in an ad on page 61 of the July GEM that Mr. Wendel is now taking pre-publication orders for a new edition of teh "Yellow Book".

Correct, that is another thread. This is an FYI, if anyone is looking the out-of-print Notebook. Lee has some now, as always he is charging suggest retail, no extra charge for being out of print. Limited of course. while they last. etc, etc..

I'm about to place an order with Mr. Pederson. How does one contact him to find out A) if he has any left and B) how much the notebooks are.

Secondly, how do you preorder your next copy of the BYB from mr. Wendel?

Jeb

I'm with Jebaroni, I would love to get one of Wendles notebooks but want to contact Mr. Peterson and verify price and availablity. His websight lists his address but no phone number and states he doesnt take phone or credit card orders, OK thats fine with me but I dont see Wendles book listed anywhere on his websight. If someone knows how to contact him please post it, I guess I could send a letter to him but if he is short on copies the time delay may cause me to miss out. Thanks

Picked one up from him yesterday at the Orange, Ma. show. $8.95, and there were 5-6 of them on the table.

Why not just send the order form requesting "Wendels Note Book" along with a check for $8.95 plus $1.50 shipping to: Lee W. Pedersen, 78 Taft Avenue, Lynbrook, NY 11563 and see what happens? He can always return your check if his supply is exhausted.....or tell you if you owe more........Helen

Tom, Your comments on the Notebook are inline with my opinion. It pales by comparison to the BYB. On the other hand, I'm glad to have one as a convient first place too look for basic info. I like it, but hopefully those persuing a copy wont be expecting some major volume. its an odd dimentioned booklet, very tall and thin. if the height were cut in half and double the page count, it could be carried in your pocket to the shows. I thought that was the idea anyway. bu its way too tall. too tall even to fit my glovebox. I'd like to see 2nd editions fo both byb and notebooks.

To clarify things...........American Gas Engine, the BYB, is 584 pages, hardbound, of engine manufacturers. Wendel's Notebook, is a softbound book, 4 1/4 x 11, with serial numbers and paint colors. It is currently out of print, but Lee Pedersen may still have some copies. I've been shipping the BYB all over the country since I had it reprinted. Thanks to all the collectors who ordered it. I debated long and hard, because reprinting a big book like this in a hard cover is an expensive proposition. And, I hope to keep the BYB in print, with everyone's support. It's just like the original, except it has a new title page, and the spine says "Prairie Press." so it can't be palmed off as the original.....I'll be at Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant the entire 5 days. A final note.......I haven't autographed any of the BYB. My stroke 4 years ago zapped my writin' hand.........

Chuck Wendel, 4415 F Street, Amana, Iowa 52203

P.S. I knew Forrest Pence real well, and could tell you stories for hours!

What a great surprize to have Mr. Wendel himself pop in to clear things up!
Since it appears that the new BYB is readily available, I would like to get one to go with my original and have a matched pair. What are the details on price & shipping?
