Question HELP! What is this engine?

I am as new to this as anyone could be. I picked up this engine today and don't have a clue what it is. Without a picture it will be difficult but here goes.
Open crankshaft, hopper cooled, wico ek mag, dual flywheels, sparkplug is in the side of the mag bracket. there is a small lever by the gears that has 3 positions. weights are to the inside and gear driven. small spring-loaded lever near the mag says Oct. 30, 1923. casting mark on hopper say 10-5-27. The only identification tag is on top of the hopper appears to be brass and has the following; Engine No. 372331 RPM 600 HP 3/4 S

I'll try and get a pic up loaded too but I'm really interested to know what this engine is

Thanks

Phil
