Default Fairbanks Mag R to a J

Has enyone tried to change a mag (R) on a 6HP fairbanks open crankcase to a (J) magneto with an impulse. It looks like it can be done, but I would appreciate any experienced advice.........Thanks Ben

IT should bolt up just fine with no trouble. Do you have to install the impulse & gear onto the "J"? If so it will fit just as it does on the "R".

As long as you have the correct gear & impulse, the magnetos will interchange with each other no problem...Same mounting patern, same shaft size... If you want, you can keep your "R" mag and swap the gear & impulse from the "J" to the "R" and maintain it's original look. with the big horseshoe magnet.
