Question IH LB 1.5-2.5hp 1948 running problem

Just picked up the engine which was restored some time earlier. It fired up right away and ran great for about 20 minutes, then started to run eratic until it stopped. If I increased the speed and adjusted the carburator needle valve I could keep it running - roughly.
It had gas and I don't think venting the tank was a problem - as I opened the cap to check the gas, then restarted it (easily) and it immediately ran rough again. Oil seemed ok as well.

check the gas tank vent, make sure it isn't plugged, and check the fuel check valve, it may have dirt in it.

Take a 1/2 dozen clean spark plugs with you to a show. They seem to foul plugs after a few hours of running.

Scott,

When I was a teenager my father was a Masonary Contractor who had at least 10 or 12 cement mixers that used those engines.

I found that if after starting them you leaned the mixture as much as you could before they started to run erratically they wouldn't foul the plugs very often.

We had some of those engines that had been run day in and day out for 10 years and they still didn't foul plugs very often.

We did however keep several spares handy.

Scott was correct - the plug was fouled. And in reflection of the last post I believe I was running it too rich. Also the gas cap was ok.
Thanks for all the help.
