Default 2 cylinder horizontal opposed Briggs ? engine

this engine is on a 4.5 KW Generac generator from around 1978-80, the CDI module quit sending fire to the ign coil, I have trigger signal and power to the module when the engine cranks, it's on a 6 pin plug mounted on the back of the control box

i'm wondering about replacing it with something from another Briggs or similar engine

ign power measure 20 vac when cranking, but i have 12v DC available if needed

i have the service manual and drawings for the generator, including the engine but generac no longer supplies repair parts for this model

Default Re: 2 cylinder horizontal opposed Briggs ? engine

It might be a defective low oil detection unit. I'm going to copy this thread over to the generator board where it might pick up more responses.

Default the coil is bad, CDI ok ?

the oil switch in the resivor is find, i even disconnected it to double check

the switch grounds the ignition stator when the oil resivior is low, it won't even let the crankcase get low

I have power from the stator to the CDI..

made some more checks today, with a digital meter and with the { try & true } hot wiring method

the ignition coil will not spark, even if connected directly to a hot 12 v line ( intermittlely ) or to the stator with 16v AC flashing on & off

service manual says 6500 ohms between the 2 plug wires, and 0 to ground

ground is open on the secondaries and the reading between plug wires is 15,000

I need to replace the COIL

so i need a 2 cyclinder coil, that will fire from this stator or a 12-14 v input using the trigger signal that is already available

I don't care what brand or engine it comes from just so it works

i might try a motorcycle ignition coil if, i don't get any good suggestions
