A friend had told we when he was restoring his Mayag Twin, there was 2 gaskets under where the crankcase bolted to the fuel tank top. Did Maytag actually use gaskets under that assembly? That was a weird find.
Mine never had that there at all and it runs fine. |

There are supposed to be a paper thin set of gaskets between the tank top and the block, to keep fuel from oozing out of the tank.

The parts catalogue doesn't show a gasket. The repair manual doesn't mention them either. I have never seen gaskets that look original between the tank top plate and the crank case. I usually make those gaskets and put them in when restoring them but I probably wouldn't need to. Tom

i fully agree with tom, i just got done rebuilding my maytag longbase twin and i didnt put gaskets undet the crankcase, (because they were originally not there) but after i got it running great it started to leak a little between the crankcase and gastank top(just on the jet side) so i took it back apart and punched them out and put them on there and it did help!!!
god bless p.s- tom have you been paying atention to the maytag market on ebay - NOW is the time to sell!!!!!!!!!! good luck~!
