Default Maytag Monitor mower questions

Hi,
I'm new to this forum and fairly new to Maytag engine collecting. I recently purchased a Monitor lawn mower powered by a Maytag 72 twin. I have a regular 72 and am somewhat familier with its operation, but this version has me stumped. This one has a lever mounted to the stator plate that I assume adjusts the timing. Nothing on it is marked, though, so I don't have a clue how to attempt to start it or check for spark. It has a air tube with adjust knob also that is the same as my kick 72. This one has a rope start flange on the flywheel. Anyone familier with this style and could give me some pointers? Thanks.

Dan
