I'm posting this one from www.sisna.com - my dial-up connection.

Eight seconds to open the forums, five seconds to open the Main Stak, five seconds to open this thread.

Five seconds to post and another five seconds to edit my typo.

Sisna has been a good dial-up at $9.95/month. Lots of connections around the country and I use it when I travel. If you would like to hook up with them, my referral number is 10339 http://www.sisna.com/referral/ oldengine (at) sisna.com

AOL must be Hell. I signed up with them once to see how this board was running. It was OK at the time, but I couldn't stand all the pop-up crap and extras in my computer. I dumped them and purged my system of all their nonsense. They tried their damnedest to keep me as a customer, but they didn't know that I was already on cable modem.

Another time saver on Internet Explorer: Click Tools > Internet Options > General > Use Blank (Why waste time loading up a page from somewhere everytime you want to go somewhere else?)

Get DSL or Cable modem if you can. It is spendy, but WELL BEYOND worth it if you spend alot of time online. I can download 5 megs in about 30 seconds

I "HAD" AOL as my dial up . JUNKED that a long time ago for cable. Now I'm . The extra $'s monthly is worth it.

About 3 sec. to load the Browser (IE), 3 sec. to load the www.smokstak.com/forum page and 2 secs. to get the message I am replying to now. I have "slow" DSL.......................and if I had to go back to dialup it would KILL me!!!

1.2 seconds with my dial up service unless i have a bunch of links open then it will take about 10 to fully load each one.

Harry how are things going in you're area with hurrincane Dennis passing through there? I just hope it doesnt bear down on Georgia.

(So far - so good, but more to come. -- Harry)

Thats good to hear. The worst thing we had going on here in Ca this year was long and heavy rainstorms in June it was raining. We also had about 13 tornados and a few funnel clouds

I have been having trouble with this site loading for the past 2 months. The same thing as Andrew described (AOL here too). If I was lucky I could get to read one thread, then everything would lock up. I was thinking the problem was in my computer, but maybe not.

I quit NetZero dial-up about 4 months ago and switched to a FREE dial-up again !!

Although I am still using the venerable, old Flintstone 1.0 computer I have always used, Harry's pages load lickety-split for me!
