Default 1/4 scale 8/16 MOGUL made by IHC

I got this little girl in 1986. It was built in the models department of IHC. One of the workers took the drawings of the 8/16 Mogul, scaled them down and made all the patterns and core boxes out of Balsa wood. He made 2 models -1 non-running and 1 running model +1 man with all moving joints. The model was displayed for years in the IHC archieves. C.H.Wendle saw it when he was doing research for his 150 year book. The deal was that the worker furnished the labor and IHC furnished the materials and facilities. When he retired he wanted paid for his labor but it was right after Case bought IHC out and rather than pay him for his work he was compensated for his time with the model and all that went with it. It was then sold to a friend of mine who in turn sold it to me and at this point in time I am in possession of the running model, all the core boxes and patterns that were used to make it, the jig that bent the frame, and the man that was made from balsa wood. This picture was taken of the model and man while it was on display at the national Red Power Round-Up this weekend in Lebanon, Tennessee at the Ohio Chapter table.

Thought I would post a picture of my 1/6th scale Type C Mogul. This is a fully functional model including friction reverse.

Here another nice Mogul model made without any castings. It can pull the owner around the showgrounds when he sits in a little wagon.

Great pictures George, taken at Panningen I suppose?
Looks like the hat of Kees Fitters in the first picture isn't it?

I haven't seen this tractor in a few years. Looks like a Bill Winteringham Model. Am I right? Bill was a very prolific builder from Estevan Saskatchewan who was active building models right up to the time of his death at the age of 91.

Thumbs up Re: 1/4 scale 8/16 MOGUL made by IHC

Kelly you are correct. Bill did build this model. What other models did he build, this one was built in 1984. Thanks Mike

Bill had built many models. Gas Tractor models......Fairbanks Morse, at least two Moguls, a Minneapolis universal, 20-40 case and I believe nine Case steam engines. He also built many gas engines and a threshing machines. He was a great guy and was always willing to help out a newcomer to model building.

all of this model talk reminded me that this year the North American Model Engineering Society annual show will be held April 22-23 at the Seagate Center in my town, Toledo, Ohio! this is an excellent show and has out grown its previous venues. you will see everything from steam traction engines to gas tractors, motorcycles, gas engines, steam engines, marine, stationary, machine tools, farm machinery, and even complete scale automobiles!

search google for the N.A.M.E.S. website for more info.

hope to see ya there.

If you fellas would like to check out the model show here in Estevan you can do so by clicking on the link below.

http://users.accesscomm.ca/emes/index.html

We just had our 18th annual show this past October with over 300 models on display. Gas tractors are usually a scarce commodity but they are out there. If you check out the site you will find a couple of nice tractor models......an Economy tractor as well as a very nice D John Deere, as well as many other very interesting models. These photos are just a small sample of the engines at the show.

The Estevan show as well as the other large shows are an excellent place to see some beautifuly built models. As well as an excellent place to meet some wonderful people that will be more than willing to help out anyone wanting to get started building models.

If you have parts numbers, you can e-mail them to Lee Grady at the Wisconsin Historical Society and he'll send you back the IH engineering drawings if they have them. Main problem is that not all of the parts appear in the parts catalogs! Only about half do. I helped out an Austrailian guy missing the platform off his Titan. Had to go in and search drawing by drawing.....

That Australian guy was me, very fortunate to get those drawings i can tell you! some reason why i do not know the platform was gone probally made up nice strainer posts during the war when steel was at a premium i think but i am guessing.

Major parts have been sand blasted and etch primed so the only way now is up cannot pull it appart any further! can only put parts on.
12 + hours to blast chassis/wheels/engine bed/gears/cylinder still have guards to do (mud and gear guards)

whole job to blast all parts inc bolts would be 25 hours approx, could be even 30 hours not including loading/transport or disassembly time or hot tanking to remove grease.

So anyone out there wanting to do similiar take that as a conservative estimate, just for cleaning.

Thank you Guy for the info!

Very interesting model. If anyone wants to see other IH built models, go by the Cyrus McCormick farm in Virginia. They have scale model reapers and binders on display. I am pretty certain all were made by IH.

Where does time go! It has been over 2 years since this thread was started. Wanted to bring it to the top so Kelly would post his Fairbanks here and also the National Model Show will be in Adrian MO this year, this might spark some interest.
