Default 12hp EK or 14hp SK

What are the differences between a 12hp EK Hercules and a 14hp SK? I have an engine tagged as a 12hp EK, but the tag is a new reproduction and I am pretty sure the serial number is not correct. When I got the engine it had a wico mag and carb like the 8hp SK shown in this post. http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21606

All of the other 12hp EK Hercules I have seen have a slightly different carb and a webster mag. Could I have a 14hp SK?

C.F.

I have a 9EK and on difference I have noticed that is has water valve and the SK models do not have it, only a casting mark in the cylinder which is the case for the link you posted. I added a different angle of the one you were talking about and a link to a picture of my 9hp. Also look for a casting date on the cylinder or the head and if you get disgruntled just let me know I will take it off your hands.....also look at the difference in the hopper lips( I guess) the early style had more roll to it and the later was more flat.http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22170

The original paint on a 14SK would have been a much lighter green. What serial number is on it? Does it have a casting date on the head or block?

I couldn't find a casting date on the head or the block. The serial number on the new tag is 176932. This engine was repainted at one time and there is no original paint left.

If it is an EK then why does it have a wico mag and an SK style carb?

Okay, what about the govenor. The piece that the weights push against is suppose to be 1 piece if it is a ek and 2 piece if it's a sk. A picture would be neat.

Here is a picture of the governor, carb, and engine on the original straight frame cart.

I plan to have this engine at the Berryville, Va show his weekend.

Forgot to add that the reason the mag in the picture is a webster is because I changed it a few years ago thinking the wico was incorrect.

EK engine you should sell it to me. Looks like it had the water valve in the head at one time. It is a nice looking engine by the way.

That engine IS an EK. It is an engine from 1914 to possibly 1917 because it is half base on a straight cart.. These half base engines were discontinued by 1917 and possibly in 1916.The serial number seems a little high for a half base engine. The highest half base 12 HP serial number that I have is 140601. As often is the case, parts have been mixed and matched.
