Default Generator/welder

Hi All,
I have an old generator/welder(wwII or Korea era). It has a stamp on it that says it was made for the airforce and army, and it has a Bendix Aviation generator on it, if that helps. What I need to know is if there is any way to make the welder burn COLDER(for lack of a better term). I've had it set to its lowest settings, and I'm lucky if I can weld 1/8 in steel. It always burns through. Is there anyone here that knows anything about these welders and could possibly give me some tips on welding thinner metal with it?
Thanks
AJH

Aloha,
How do you set it to it's lowest settings ? Is it a switch, rheostat? "I've had it set to its lowest settings"

Mahalo,

I have a old airco welder that has the same issue / some of these older welders have a magnetic amplifier much like a transformer unfortunatatly this is the heart of the machine and finding some one to rewind the mag amp is costly / So I bought the wire seven years ago and still don't have all the knowledge to fix it. Maybe I will wait till copper goes through the roof again and scrap it. I currently have four dead weldors and three alive and well sorry I didn't help much good luck / if it is a reastat this is a much cheaper fix

perhaps a KISS solution...just use longer cables? it will get you further from what is probably a noisy welder anyways!
