I have been to both and in my opinion there is no comparison. Definetly go to Portland if you have the chance.

If you are just speaking "show" Portland is losing it> The swap meet / flea market has crowded out the show portion. All the replies prior state the variety of engines. Many of these are not on show, they are in flea market section of Portland. Many nice unique engines on display at Portland but walk thru & see how many are actually running during show open hrs. Many tractors of WW 2 & newer vintage sitting in the shade for your walking by. You need to decide what you want to see / view.

I will agree that the number of dealers and traders has grown a lot in the past few years . But, as far as the engine display area is concerned the space alloted for displaying engines was enlarged three or four yeras ago by moving all the dealers that were in the shaded area of the fairgrounds out into the adjoining field where there have been dealer spaces for a long time. So, Either way you go you are still a winner. joe Moris

Thumbs up Re: Which show is best? Buckley or Portland

I've never been to Buckley, but when you have people coming from over the "pond" to the Portland show, that says it all. I've been to several shows this year & met a lot of really nice people & all they ask about is the "P-town" show. The guys in P-town have a lot on their hands putting on this show & should be well appreciated. I can't figure out if I'm going to sale or exhibit. It sure would be nice if you could do both (I'm not the only one thinking this) Indiana. I well blessed with many antique machinery shows & we enjoy them all.

We go to both Portland and Mt Pleasant. They are both big shows with a lot to see, but their personalities and exhibit mix are different.

My family drove to Buckley a few years ago. We were enticed by the large advertisements they place in the collectors magazines boasting of huge qty's of engines and tractors. We were very disappointed when we arrived.

They barely had a tenth of the engines and maybe a quarter of the tractors they claimed. They did have a massive flea market. The show grounds are nice and they had a few samples of really nice tractors to look at (1 - Flower City, 1 - Hart Parr 30-60 and an underslung Avery steamer).

We will not go back again and we laugh at the boasts in advertisements they continue to place.

Go to Portland and ensure yourself a great time.

Best Regards,

Donald
