Default Jacobsen mower plug question

I have a jacobsen (circa late 60s?) pushmower with a 2 cycle engine. Anyone have an idea of what plug to use? I have been using outboard plugs in it for the past 12 years, however now that I have found this board I figured I would see what it should be running. Also, its currently running an electronic ignition unit since I used to use it on lawns commercially, and still use it for weekly laps around the yard. Will the electronic unit make a difference in the plug required? THanks for the help.

you can use either a champion J-8J, or the Champion J-17 LM. Both will work well in the 2 stroke engine. The J-19 LM may run too hot in the 2 stroker. The CJ-8 may also work as well. If the Jacobsen engine is one of the orange engines, use 16:1 fuel to oil ratio - it will last longer than on the 32:1

Houston,

I have a Champion spark plug chart for 1968 that lists about 15 different plugs depending on what model of mower and what engine it has. If you can give me the model of mower and type of engine, should be able to give you the correct Champion plug number. From there might be able to cross reference to equivilent in another brand.

Thanks for the help, I will try to find the model # when I get home. I run 24:1 in the mower cause thats what I generally run in my antique outboards. It is one of the orange engines, vertical shaft, probably ~ 3HP? Has the big muffler plate on the bottom. I have two more motors to steel parts off of if this one ever craps out.

if the engine was made for 32:1, then you are OK. , However if the engine was made in the '50s or early '60s, then you are running it too lean on oil, and stand a chance of burning out the bearings. These engines need 16:1
