Original BYBs were printed in 1983 ... 584 pages of everything you don't have ...And everything you could ever want.. Like was said before everybody don't know about Harrys Site or that they can get a reprint for $50.00 bucks.. Phillip any old manuals are worth keeping ...Byron

It depends upon what you want the book for. Just thumbing through and for a reference book, a reprint is fine. I'm sure that some folks will want the whole collection from start to finish. There are now five editions!

My take on the situation would be that we are still buying the first edition, now in the 5th printing. The first printing, I assume is the most common yellow hardcover. Then followed a rare and more valuable leather cover (or in parallel). Next a red cover (by another publisher) and a soft cover. The red cover is worth less, I would say, not becauce of the cronology; but because the quality was lower. paper back would generally be worht less, all things being equall. I dont think they printed many softcover, but the rule is supply AND demand.
To call any of these a reprint, I think is a mis nomer. They are printings of the first edition. Now we come to speculation for the most recent offering, I call it the 5th printing of the first edition. This one maybe destined to be the most valuable (excepting the leather bound of course) because its a good quality printing and a very limited quantity. If you are in this for the money I suggest you bulk up on the 5th printing. Maybe ask for an autograph copy while your at it. Then watch ebay, when these run out! I may stay with my one copy and hope for a revised (aka 2nd) edition someday. Then again, that maybe why I work these long hours for short money. |
