Default Air cooled mag.

Hello all,

I have a small magneto that I have wondered about long enough. If it was an impulse, that part has been removed and a little crank has been attached to the shaft. I'm pretty sure I know why, since I knew the fellow that gave it to me. It is for a 4 cyl. engine and this fellow worked in Va. with NASA. He was a prankster from way back, and I believe he rigged this mag. like this to put a wire in a chair to burn hineys.

Now what bothers me is,this mag has a hole drilled and taped on both sides of the housing and a brass fitting screwed in on both sides as if water, oil or air was going to be passed through this mag. Since it can't be water or oil,It would seem that air or a gas of some sort was being used to maybe cool the coil. Has anyone seen a mag set up for air cooling ? It is about the size of a IH CUB tractor mag. Maybe someone can ease my curious mind. Arthur
