Things were bad enough in Northeast Miss. We had lots of trees down and power outages. The southern part of Miss was hit really hard. I heard of many power outages, downed trees, flooding, etc. This was the worst storm I can remember in my 47 years. I can't imagine having been on the coast during it. I have a student in med school in Mobile, AL. He said it wasn't really hit as hard as Hattiesburg, MS where one of his friends is in school.

The TV news was saying that a lot of people will be without electricity for 6-8 weeks. The utilities basically have to start from scratch putting in all new poles and running new lines. Probably more than a few sub-stations will need to be replaced as well.
One report said that over a million people are now homeless refugees.
It is a shame that it needs to be said, but be very careful about donating to relief efforts. By all means, GIVE!, but know exactly who you are handing your money to. If you stick with Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities or other verifiable organizations your help will go where it is needed.

This may really be off the wall but, Let's see what the French have to say about getting all the people here in the US, Aid from foreign countries. The US of A has helped many countries in time of need, even ones we have been at war with. Where is their help now that we need some? News services are saying that over 1 million homeless - with nothing but the clothes on their backs, entire communities wiped out, They showed tonite, one of the barrier islande 20 FEET under water. A 20 foor wave surged up to a mile inland - A storm caused Tsunami. Is any one going to send us help to recover from this disaster? We Shall See. God bless those in need.

I just wonder who is going to pay for all of this . Sorry, I forgot it's US-USA'ens. I don't expect much help from the UN and others, and it would be a pleasant surprise if some did. I think we should call in all our chips from those who "OWE" us, lock down the borders, bring the troops home, reduce taxes, develop our own internal resources to the n-th degree and just "STOP" giving our country away..... One world order, diversity and economy--- Just not a happy camper. But then again, I'm on "BREAK" on third shift at work in Pa., waiting to go to the "FLEA MARKET" on the way home on $3.00 + a gallon fuel, and park the 94 Chevy with 348,000+ miles in the drive way and work on old iron. What more could a person want . Sure feel "SORRY" for those that got caught up with Katrina...

Andrew you right , we (usa) are the first to help other countries in time of need, all we do is give & give, well its about time someone gives us a hand with this destruction that has happen, all the money that has been loaned out is history, well its pay back time ,"Darn it" and as for the guy's fighting overseas with they family's in need of them, its time to bring them home!! Its pass time for this to come about!!!! we as american people can only do so much! and no one can not say we don't!!!!!!

There is also "bayou Bob Mayeaux" down there somewhere I think. I've read his article in GEM about some engines at an old civil war fort- Remember?

Strangely enough, I flew from Nebraska to Narlins on a Saturday, one week and a day before it hit. I bought a pickup on Ebay and had to go get it.
I was glad I hadn't waited another week. My son and I took an air boat tour and our guide said a Cat 3 hurricane could finish them off for good. We never expected that a 4 would be coming in a week. My wife and I were up late Sunday, praying for God's mercy on the people down there.

I don't think it's a coincidence that the storm hit the day that "Southern Decadence Week" was supposed to start. For those of you who don't know, that is sort of a "gay (sodomite) Mardi Gras". Things you can't even imagine go on right in public streets in front of God and everybody. Mardi Gras isn't much better, with public nudity, sex, drunkenness, etc... being not only allowed, but celebrated.
I believe that this hurricane is the judgment of God, and that it is also the mercy of God that there was so much warning; it wasn't a direct hit, and that it weakened from a category 5.
I know that some God-fearing people live there also, and that some innocent folk were affected, but that is consistent with biblical judgements. As is a warning to "Get out."
Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?
I know that I will take heat for this, but God has been very patient for a very long time. Before you attack me, read your Bible. It says God never changes.

America needs to repent. We have collectively kicked God out of the schools, removed the 10 commandments from most public places, Legalized abortion, pornography, and sodomite marriage. etc... etc...
We need to pray God would have mercy on our nation. We have forgotten God. I know this message won't be popular. Even Jesus himself was so "popular" that the religious crucified him.

Man I hate to stir this one up, but I have to ask John, WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT I have been on this board for some time and I have never encountered one bigot. I have met a lot of different people with a very broad range of opinions but not one bigot. And I am not an overly religious man but I have to agree that the big easy has needed a good cleansing for a long time. That is one mans opinion I do not feel it makes me a bigot in anyway. Sometimes the first person to holler is the only one that thinks that way. sort of you smelt it you dealt it Anyway my prayers go out for the families down there and I also pray gas comes down soon Joe M.

Kevin, you put my thoughts down exactly....read in the good book about how people turn away from God, and how things get bad very quick. you have my support, I wish more thought like you! our county needs to turn back to what is right!

and, though your thoughts may not be liked by all,It is better to do what is right by GOD than what is right by mankind

Here are a few synonyms for the word Bigot: extremist; diehard; dogmatist; racist; hypocrite; and chauvinist. I think we are all old enough to read the above posts and see which shoe fits.

Sorry Harry. I'm done now.

Ok, gotta chime in here, Anytime religion or politics are discussed there are going to be differing opinions. I have never seen or heard of any bigotism on this board either And I do not see any here. God's written word is very clear on the aforementioned activitys. Is it a concidence with the timing of events who really knows?? But I will say that there will be a judgement day for everyone. And all we can do is pray for the folks in need of help.
