Default Mall chainsaws

Need info on carb parts for 1948 two man Mall chainsaw. My saw runs good until the float gets saturated. Could I possibly coat the float. Also, could use new needle valves and seats, but might be able to make them. Anything is appreciated. Gary

What model is your Mall saw? I have most of a Model 11 engine - missing the flywheel and ignition components. It does have the magnetic rotor on the crankshaft. Anybody have any of these items?

For the float, if it is cork, contact Lee Pederson, One of Harry's advertisers, and you want his alcohol resistant tank sealer. Dip the float in the sealer, and let dry for at least a week. Repeat several times. If it is a brass float, replacement is the best bet.
For the Ignition - Mall used Bendix-Scintilla for the ignition. These items, unfortunately, are hard to come by. Some coils are avaiulable from Marks Magneto, but I don't think he has the cores and point assemblies. Give him a call, you never know!

Hello.
My name is Magnus and I collect chainsaws here in Sweden.
I go to old engin shows here and know many with stationary glowplug engins.

I have about 300 in collection and about 250 in parts and dubbles.

Not too long ago I got more interested in two man saws and I got 5 here now.
I miss the gear/bar/chain/helperhandle/muffler for my Mall11, Bar/chain for PPK 80.
I also searsh for some Partner model called x21 and P15. Any tip of parts or saws is alway's appersiated.
I have a site for these old saws. www.chainsawcollectors.se

There is many collectors of saws there.

If any of you have a two man saw you think needs to emigrate please let me know.

Red face Re: Mall chainsaws

Magnus,
If your model 11 Mall uses a 3/4" chain, as my model 7-H does, it is no longer available here in the USofA. Perhaps it is still available overseas.
Andrew.

Nice collection!
I have a chainsaw collectors forum you might want to check out.
www.chainsawcollectors.se

I really like the two man saws but they are very hard to find here.
So far I got Mercury Disston DA211, Dolmar CL, Stihl KS43 (complete), Mall 11 is missing half the saw, and PPK 80 is missing bar/chain/helper handle.

Andrew.
It is hard to get new parts for these saws. Used will do just fine.
The saw is a two man saw from 1950.
I am not sure the 3/4 is used on harvesters anymore, but I have some hardly used loopes for harvester.

My father has a 2 man Mall out in the barn I have yet to dig out, I just cleaned up and painted his 12A one man (pic below, I masked off where the yellow logo was on top) . I had the parts list/instructions for a 2MG for years and just picked up a pair of those in a truckload for $50, the powerheads had been swopped do the running one has the two man blade on it (see thread on old saws above for pic of those two). That model came with an unimaginable series of attachments. I also have an old sales brochure from when Mall was taken over by Remington and both names appear on it, c. 1956? I passed up a pair of old Remingtons for $50, have to cut back somewhere.

Attached pic of my Mercury Disston D100 I'm almost done with, I need to get a bolt in the handle on the other side, and have the cylinder full of penetrating oil. I was going to paint the blade but found the Disston Saw Co. relief still legible so oiled it up instead. Also attached a 1945 adv. for Disston 2 man from Upstate NY dealer A.C.Lamb of Liverpool, they were the first I know of in this part of the state, I have parts book for this saw, but so far no saw. (Doesn't everyone collect the literature first? )

Default Re: Mall chainsaws/Mercury Disston

I went with a dozen saws loaded in my van to an engine show at Brookfield Wheel Days yesterday (today was a rainout), and the most common two man people remembered, or said they owned (3), was a Mall, one other person said he had a Homelite two man which I'm guessing is actually a Lombard, (as I made the same mistake when I brought mine home). I think the two mans I'd like most to stumble across would be a early Disston or Titan, or a one man A.C. Lamb, Titan or....whatever I'm looking at with too much money in my pocket and not enough sense in my head :P I did pass up a David Bradley at Constableville I probably should have bought, but after loading, unloading, and loading and putting away the dozen chainsaws I took yesterday I feel like I really have enough.

Smile Re: Mall chainsaws

I have a question for Mall enthusiasts. I collect old snowmobiles. I often run into old saws so I know a little bit about them and have sent a dozen or more "keepers" to a friend in PA. Does anyone have any information on whether Mall made a prototype snowmobile of some type using the chainsaw engine? I have talked to three "old Timers" who actually saw or rode the machine in western Montana in the early to mid 50s. They said it had a Mall engine on the back and they believed at the time it had been built by Mall rather than being some home-made machine. I have yet to find any additional info if such a project took place. Thanks.

Correction Regarding above post. I meant to say they saw this machine in the early to mid 1960s. It was taken in on trade by an Evinrude snowmobile dealer who started in late 1964 and he took it to a local rancher to demonstrate it and try to sell it to him.
