I just picked up this Frisco Standard, it's in pretty good condition but as with all of the marine engines from this part of the country its been run in salt water. Is there any way of nuetralizing the salt in the water jacket?

Thanks,
Jim

Don't know of any way to neutralize your salt other than to just flush it with lots of clear water.
Very impressive motor you got there! Is there some kind of heat exchanger in the cylinder jacket to pre-heat the air for the carb? The pipe that goes from the bottom of the jacket to the inlet side of the carb is why I ask.

John

The air intake is on the other side of the engine. It is a screen-grate affair. The air passes around the hot cylinder and and enters the carb via the tube that mentioned.

John,
It appears that warm air is drawn in from around the lower portion of the cylinder, notice the vent holes on the opposite side. It is one heavy engine
for a 5hp.

Jim

The best way to preserve your salt water exposed engine is to keep the water jacket full of antifreeze when not in use. When the jackets get dry the salt crystalizes and swells, breaking the cast iron apart !
Great old marine engine !
