Default reel mower with reverse ?

My father in law says he has a reel push mower up in the barn that I can have. He said that it is self propelled and also has reverse . I haven't gone to look at it yet . Has anyone ever heard of one of these with reverse ?
Thanks,
Raz

Sounds like a Pincor Model P-20. A good choice for your project! This mower / engine has a (I believe) 5:1 reducing gearbox on it. There is also a multi-disc wet clutch inside of it. The 'reverse' was actually for running the blade backwards to sharpen it. The reverse gear is brass and rides on a bushing, so it is not intended for extended use, but would suit your needs to occaisonally back up. The gear shift would require some innovative linkage. These have a lever with a spring loaded pin and knob that you have to pull the knob and swing the lever to shift it. If you are up to the challenge, this could be just what you are looking for. I also believe that these Pincor mowers the cutting unit can be readily removed, making that part of the job a little easier.
Put some pictures up and let's see what you've got.

I was actually thinking of keeping this a mower and not turning it into a scooter . I am thinking about doing a setup like a Choremaster and cart. How about a homebuilt unit like a Choremaster ?
Thanks,
Raz

some of the larger reel mowers used a sulky behind the mower, so you could sit and mow. Jacobsen 4 acre (with optional wheel extensions, Gravely, and National Mower are a few that come to mind. Perhaps yours had one too.
