Default F-M 45-A info needed

I have a Fairbanks Morse model 45-A 3-1/2S single cylinder 15HP diesel engine of about 1939 vintage that I am restoring for a friend. This engine was built along the same lines as the twin cylinder V-45-A. I could use photos and any instuction/maintenance information on this engine.
One question I have is if there is supposed to be a crank case breather on one of the access covers. This one appears to be added and there is also a breather present that vents into the air intake (looks original).

Nice running engine by the way.

Thank you!
Joe S.

Hey Joe, I have a 45A V-twin, also got a copy of the manual with from the previous owner, I'll make you a copy if you want. Not a lot of the twins made (30), even less of the singles(15). I'd like to see a picture of the single. I've been told it looks like the post war 45B. Wendle's 100 Years of Fairbanks shows what is supposed to be a 45A single, but I can't help thinking it's a 45B. Ther 45A twin has a chain drive to a cam that sits in it's own little compartment on the top of the engine, my 45B has a gear driven cam, the article also states that the 45A is similar in construction to the 36A, , also chain drive.
A few years before my interest in diesels peaked, I saw a Fairbanks diesel sold at the Bieler auction, I don't remember all the details I'm pretty sure it was a single, but it had what seemed to me at the time the same kind of strange look that my 45A twin has. I think it might have been the 45A single. I don't have any idea where that engine ended up, but I do remember it sold for about a grand, which surprised me because I didn't consider it to be in real good shape. Any chance the engine your playing with is that one?
Get back to me with your mailing address, and please email or post a picture or two of the engine.
