Witte Diesel with Witte generator

need info on a 3-6 HP witte.Tank cooled deisel with 95% orig paint in great shape except crack in head.Everything is there except cooling tank.Orig skid with witte genarator.Engine has red witte tag and engine tag but nothing stamped on tag.Former owner says it works great but head needs to be fixed.Super unit .I will get pictures as soon as i clean it up.Any info on this and starting and running instructions would help.Also what is this worth.This is the first deisel i have owned.Thanks Greg

Well they made them in vertical (About 4 HP I think) and 5,6 and 12 horisontal in the earlier tank cooled style I think. Does it look anything like this one. ?

thats the one .The tag on engine only says witte and it has an oval red tag that also says witte.Nothing on the square tag is stamped with any numbers.Tag on the genarator is stamped.also has a flexable exshaut pipe.what are these worth roughly?.Thanks for the photo.Any instructions for starting?

Well Mine is serial number D 687 on the engine built in 1937. Good for about 16 amps at 230 volts and 32 at 115. The Tag on mine says 5 HP but I think the 6 HP is later and more common. We discussed these engines a couple years ago and I think if you look in the archives you may find something. I gave 1000$ for mine 5 or 6 years ago. One cylinder diesels seem to be quite popular with the collectors but kinda hard to find. You could try some of Harrys suppliers for an instruction book.

Ken, is that Witte one of the loud or quiet ones? I've been told that the earlier or smaller engines were much smoother and quieter; true? I recently passed up a 12hp(? 6" bore) with generator because I was told it would be a real thumper and being in suburbia need something smooth and quiet like a Lister.

Well it's not real quiet but you can muffle the exhaust and if you have it in a enclosure or building wouldn't be too bad. Of course the average 3600 Rpm modern ones are noisey also and there is a longevity issue with those

I have one very simular to yours, maybe a couple years older. It quit pumping fuel to the injecter pump. I suspect the fuel pump has stuck as it was when I bought the engine about 10 years ago. Otherwise it is a great running engine.

What you have is a Witte Model KD Dieselectric Unit.
You will need to check your engine for the following. As shown in Kens pic, older versions of this engine, the injector was mounted on the cylinder block. Newer versions on this engine Witte changed this location and mounted the injector on the cylinder head. So I suggest you check your. The newer version is more popular and not as hard to find parts for. If you have the newer version, I do have the Service Manual along with the CV Generator Manual on CD.
