Exclamation Re: Maytag ID & year

On the engine flywheel rim there should be a serial number, This number is the only way to date the engine, if it is a model 92 (single, which I suspect it is),or 72 Twin (does not have a tag) By tag, I suspect you are talking about an aluminum plate attached to the engine by the top 2 intake screws. If that is the case, this was an operations data plate, which is available as a repro from sponsers here at the Stak. The model 92 Maytag engine has the unique distinction of being the longest production Internal combustion engine ever built without a major design change. This engine was fitted with 4 different fuel tanks, that affected capacity of the tank, and engine mounting characteristics, but the basic engine was not changed. it was built from 1917 until 1959, with engines built from parts inventory until 1963, when Maytag disposed of all its remaining engine inventory.

Andrew

The 92 style engine was built from serial number 219612 in September of 1927 to 804444 in early august of 1937.

The twin cylinder engines are not actually 72 models. People refer to them as 72s because the model of the Eisemann magneto is 72d and 72 da.
