Default Ford Buzz Coil Wiring/ How much resistance

At the swapmeet last week I bought a model t coil and I forgot which post is +
- and the sparkplug. I also would like to know how much resistance it should have. I think it has a bad secondary or primary coil should I also have a condensor in line or does the coil have one built in. Does any one have a wiring diagram they can post for me. Thanks

Ray the top side and bottom posts are for the battery and the lower side post is the plug.It is best to alternate the battery connection helps the points last longer? There is a condenser inside .BobRR

Ray first clean the points and all the spots the screws and nuts make contact. I have found that most times that it is a corroded contact that stops these from working.BobRR

Will do. I spent most of this morning cleaning the points up. One side was badly pitted. I'll clean the contact screws tommorow. Thanks for the cleaning tip

Ray- The secondary coil should show 3-4k ohms. The primary should show 0.2-4 ohms. The condenser sits on the bottom of the coil opposite the HT leadout. It is about 4" long x 1.2 x .5" If you replace it, make sure it is rated at 0.2-0.4 microfarad at 400-600 working volts. Do not use electrolytic caps as they will fail. A good modern condenser for a lawnmower or older car will work AOK. I have rebuilt ~60 of the darn things over the years. Very important is that the moveable contact have a bit of play- that allows the field to build up before it snaps open. The model T ford club sells an excellent book on the subject of coil rebuilds.

Ok. I'll have to go get a condensor because this one oddly enough doesnt have the condensor in it dont know why but when I poked around in it there wasnt any condsnsor sitting in there.

Ray,
The condenser is usually separated from coil by a glass insulator. The condeser looks kind of like a folded wad of aluminum foil about 3"long with thin wires connecting it.

Almost all of the original Ford coil condensers have failed by now. Most fail OPEN.
So the simplest fix is to attach a modern condenser on the outside, near the base of the points. One lead to each side, polarity does not matter.
That will fix almost every Ford buzz coil.
