W.B.

Essex was an old mfgr of marine engs, up to 1905 the W.J. Young Machinery Company was the manufacturer and the trade name was "Essex" . 1906 the companies named changed to "The Essex Engine Co. both Companies address was Union Street, Lynn,Mass. Wendel lists both of these Companys in his Gas Eng book and has photos of each, but I believe he has their history reversed, Young machinery was the oldest!
Essex made changes to their engs over the yrs, some had removable cylinder heads. some were headless, early ones had make & break ignition later ones had jump spark, later engs had dual feed drip oillers etc. Give me more info on your eng or post photos here and I'll try to get an ad photo of your eng !
This is a 1906 ad.
