Default Revive a Dead Mag

I have a 1 1/2 hp IHC M that needed to be started on a battery. After it was started I could switch it over and run it on the mag.

I ran the engine on the battery and forgot that I had the mag wire still on the egnitor. The mag is totally dead. Is there anything that I can do to revive it?

Unhappy Re: Revive a Dead Mag

Pull end cover on mag and take a smell - if it smells burnt, you probably fried coil, only remedy is to replace it. If it doesn't smell burnt, short wire and turn over mag. If there is no resistance, coil has an open - again burnt out. If you get resistance, disconnect wite and try again. If resistance to turning does not change, first check magnets for pull. If they are very weak, recharge, and try mag again. The fact that you had to battery start to begin with, says you need mag work, and you probably finished off a weak coil. A good mag shop should be able to set you up.
