Holy Cow---I just changed to a wireless system and have a new e-mail---the 100mbps is lighting fast--[YEA] going to one e-bay item to another 1/2 second maybe one second--everything is fine -EXCEPT--coming from my bookmark to the smokestak or enginads--barnsale--ect-ect---engineads take 2 to five minutes to load in the first place--then when I go from the stak--and go back to ads--hell--sometimes it won;t even go there --just times out--and says[done] it is that way everywhere i go in the engine site--when I have responded to someones ad and hit send--it just sits there--I can;t tell if it has been sent, it don;t make sense, this is the only place I have trouble----any ideas??? anyone else??

some pitch a hissy fit cuz dial up modems are slow, "so they claim".....they can be,.. but it soots me just fine, dont seem slow to me, everything works fine, you get a hesitation once in a while but nothing serious, and it doesn't hesitate all the time, maybee 5 percent of the time. .... nothing wrong here.
slow (er) is better sometimes. just me but i can get to places just as fast as those bells and whistles intrenet cariers do. just me though.

DJ,
I have no idea what you are experiencing there. It is in no way working like you are telling us. Pages are up within one second here. You might try approaching your technical support people about this and ask them if they are experiencing similar timing problems on this page. It could be a DNS server issue on their part. How do these load? www.oldengine.net www.old-engine.com www.enginebooks.com www.enginads.com ALL within ONE SECOND on my screen here in Florida on Comcast. |

Well, I Just changed to a Dish also... In Wet weather with the dialup I would connect at 14.4 and the best I ever had was 28.8 and that was only one day in 7 years. Ran a test yesterday and was downloading at 507 KBS and uploading at 52 something.
Harrys works Just Fine now and I can even get into the chat room

system just stops--this is a great site--right now I am having a hellova time--I just posted a new message about cutting up a conveyer belt up to make smaller belts--it took 2 min and 40 seconds to get to where I could post-- I am useing a stopwatch , so I can make these statements with certainty.d,j, |

I use a dial-up ISP (myexcel.com) and most of the time it works fine. Once in a while it takes a while to get something, but usually it is quick enough. The time of day does make a difference, however. That said, now and again Harry's site takes a fit (although he steadfastly denies it) and refuses to let me in or recognize my password. I have to log out and then log in again to get it to play with me. Al Wait

We use Windows2000Pro in all our PC's here at work and at home, and we use Opera as a browser. We also have Firefox and IE6 but Opera we like and it works well for us. One thing that is well worth doing is to empty your "cache memory". We set Opera to empty on exiting the program so we don't have to worry about it, and I think you can do the same with Firefox and IE6. If you have a fixed Cache memory limit and it gets full, you have a problem which slows the program down. It will also go looking in cache before looking anyplace else, so emptying it daily is a 'good thing'! The other thing to check on is that all your Windows updates are in place and current. Peter |

What is really strange--I had the tech guy over here--he went thru everything--ran virus stuff--spyware--unloaded everything that was not necessary--all chaches--everthing!!!!!-darn it all, this site is the ONLY one that runs slow, all the e-bay stuff runs within 1 sec--forward-back all-I nor the tech can figure it out--there is nothing wrong here--it took a full minute to load for this response-

Do you have a Satellite dish? If so who is the provider? Direcway? Wildblue? or a service from one of the cellphone companys? I have Wildblue here and they have a 30 day trial and so far I'm keeping it. It might take a little while to contact the server but once it starts downloading it is fast. Used to take about 8 refreshes to look at pictures on ebay
Now they are there before you even look at them.

Well since you like old engines and like to work on things and make things better why don't you dump your OS. If your running windows there are a few tweaks and things that you can clean up that might help. I run a Linux operating system as I like to be able to get "inside" and configure things the way I want. This site is fast and with my connection it is even faster. So look towards your service provider or your operating system, and yes it could be a dns issue but if your running windows you really have no good way of managing such things. Do a little research and it will become clear what you need to do.

Once you go wireless through a router you have MANY changes to make or CAN make...ONE of them being disabling Windows' handling of the wireless network.
I doubt anyone is going to change their operating system to access this site a few seconds faster. I just tested the url/dns thing and came up with identical results and BOTH were LIGHTENING fast even on a LOW end (113up vs 320down) DSL connection. Do you have a 15 year old in the neighborhood to check things out for you? Craig |

Well, I went through ST Croix Electric of Hammond. I am not a member there but you don't have to be. If you don't like it they will buy the equipment back in 30 days but will not refund installation. I don't notice a Big difference on text pages but any downloads are about 20 times faster than what I had.
Seemed Direcway was a Lot More Money.

I was on dial up for 5 years and had lots of trouble off and on. Last April I went with a wireless system. I had to put up a receiver on top of my shop and run a line into the house. I am in line of sight of a tower 5 miles away by mounting the receiver on top of the shop. Our old phone lines don't handle DSL or what ever that is, so my only option was to go wireless. It has worked flawlessly, and weather hasn't bothered it at all. All the hook ups, receiver, and little box on the floor behind the desk was free as long as you sign up for 3 years and pay $34.99 per month. You have your choice of 256 or 512 download speeds and 128 upload speed, I took the 256 as the 512 was $10 more per month. I check the speed every once in awhile and it runs between 400 to over 500 most of the time. I know it is high priced versus the dial up, but for me doing ameture website work, it is a pleasure to work with the speed of it.
