Default Lincoln SAE 300

I bought a Lincoln 300 amp machine made in the '40s. It has a Hercules JXD motor, that has been sitting for a while. I tried to turn it over, and there is not any compression. It looks like the valves are stuck open. I am thinking about selling off the motor, and installing a smaller and more efficient engine. The generator looks to be in really good condition. The brushes are hardly worn. I think there is a market for the engine. If I even parted it out, I think I would be ahead. (I paid 50.00 for the whole thing). Any thoughts?

Thanks Randy

Unless the engine was submerged, it should be a simple effort to free the stuck valves! Try pulling out the spark plugs, pour in about a cup or 2, of Kerosene in each of the holes. On the side of the engine there should be a couple of steel plates over the valve chambers. Pull the plates, hose the valve stems with WD-40, and gently tap the valves with a plastic hammer, and a screw driver. Between the WD, and the Kero, they should loosen up. Make sure to get most of the Kero out, and change the oil, before attempting to start.
