Default Antique Chain Saws Anyone?

I saw this photo while searching for info on antique chain saw sites that may be lurking out there (Any one know of a good source for info on old chain saws?) I was fortunate enough to buy a couple dozen at an auction for $3 ea.

This is a 346 XP (Homelite?) that went thru a chipper

Kieth, Who is it? Skylar? that has that basket case 4 cylinder he's hunting parts for. I think that Homelite of yours would be an easy restoration for him when he gets done. LOL Kevin

Keith,
There is a guy that lives in the Medina, Ohio area who is a big time collector of chain saws. I will try to find his contact info for you. He really knows his stuff.

That WAS a Husquvarna. If you look right in the middle of the pile of rubble you can see the logo. I love my husky...if anyone ever mis-treated it like that they'd certainly pay for it!! How the heck does that happen anyway?

VERY GOOD SITE!!!

Up here in Washington state, there are a few guys (and gals) that show chainsaws and suspect quite a few that have them squirreled away. You know.....there used to be a lot of BIG trees up here but they cut 'em all down.

Anywhoo- I went to the Shelton show with some goodies to swap/sell and I had a giant Mall saw strapped on the very top of my cab. One guy dog-trotted alongside my driver's window so he could get first crack at that saw. It paid off for him, too! I told him he could have it for a hundred bucks and he couldn't hand me the money fast enough.

Maybe I could have gotten more $$ but money isn't everything.

I was pleased to have my show/swap gas and expenses paid before shutting my engine off and seeing the smile on that guy's face was worth something too. Christmas in July, I guess !!

O-my goodness. I hope he was in a good when it went through the chipper. If it had been mine, I probably would have had a heart attack. I had a friend that was into chain saws but I don't know where he went to. I think Virginia but I'm not sure. He had quite a bunch of them, all running. Dick in the cold, cold Finger Lake Region of NYS.

Anybody ever see an air-powered chain saw? I went to an auction about 10 yrs. ago in So. CO, there was about 10 acres covered w/ everything from hit & miss engines to cars-anyhow, there was a big old chain saw, about a 6 foot bar, that had an air motor, just a fitting on the end to connect to a mine-type compressor hose. As I remember, it was a 2-man saw, there was a handle on the far end of the bar. Don't remember what it sold for, but I've never seen another one...I suspect after you ran it all day, you would not be ready to go out dancing...

Similar air-powered saw arrangments are used for underwater work on pilings, etc, as well as unventilated areas.

The story I heard which fits with the photo at the top of this thread is.... Some arborists were working a tree-trimming and removal job when lunch brak rolled around. One guy set his new Husky in the feed chute of the chipper. (Smart place to hide a new saw, right?) He didn't tell the chipper operator. The chipper operator came back to work before the other crew....

I'm a beekeeper by trade and my hobby is restoring old chain saws. I have about 70 saws, mostly old McCulloch's and Homelite's, a few other makes, and including three reciprocating saws - a Wright B316, a Wright B520 and an Allis-Chalmers 85. I'm interested in learning more about antique saws, sharing info on repairing and restoring them, and trading for or buying old chainsaws and reciprocating blade power saws.

Ken
