I use a 16 to 1 mix. Never had any problems..Tried 50:1 as told by a chainsaw shop. The engine got hot after just a few moments. The 16:1 mix has worked good on my 72 amd my 92 They will run all day and I can still hold my hand on them.

Hello all,
I run 80W aircraft oil in mine at 16 to 1 ratio. I have heard that the aircraft oil is the closest to the original maytag oil. For unloaded running you might lean it out to about 20 to 1 for less smoke and slobber. The next time I fire it up I'm going to try some camp stove fuel. Anybody have any reports on running them on it? I found an old scroll saw at an antique store. I'm going to bolt it to the Maytag skid and use the Maytag to run it, might actually work. keithw |

The May 1990 issue of Gas Engine Magazine has a fairly good article for overhaul of the Maytag Twin with photos. It might help, if you can find a copy. The service instructions are helpful, but mostly text, and not really for complete overhaul.
This model engine is unique, but very simple and designed to be easily serviced. Any garage mechanic or teenager with a few basic tools should be able to take it completely apart and re-assemble without fear of hurting anything. I've used SAE 30 Non-detergent at 20:1 with no problems. Any 2-cycle oil will work fine also. |
