I think that is way too much for a common engine. and, why would someone outbid the runner up by about 40%?

Bill,
The reason for the fairly large margin between the high bidder and the runner up is the reserve price. The high bidder kept bidding until he met the reserve price, which was $1500. That price seems pretty steep to me too.

I would imagine that the Hercules / Jaeger engine that this seller also has will have a reserve around the same as the FM. Good looking engine, but I agree with you guys - a little steep.
