Meadows Grist Mill?


I found a grist mill today, no I.D on it but had the #'s 30-26719 stamped on it in the front top...

Question Meadows Grist Mill?

I found a grist mill today, no I.D on it but had the #'s 30-26719 stamped on it in the front top corner.I was wondering is that a Meadows serial or another brand. Its red with black trim. Thanks for any info.

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, I think the first number was the size of the stones. In your case, 30" diameter which was one of the largest that they made (I think they made up to 32" or 34"). The last two digits of the number were the year of manufacture. In your case, 1919. The fact that your mill is of wooden construction would go along with this. Also, there were no odd sized mills (i.e. built in 1930 with 19" stones). Meadows mills were Red with black trim. Williams mills were yellow with black trim. Williams was eventually acquired by Meadows. Meadows also marketed mills through IHC, which were also red and black but with different decals I beleive.
