Default Drill bit sharpeners, teensy, weensy bits, help !!......

Yeah well that thread was getting old so let me pose another question!

I've been sharpening my own drill bits by hand for a long time. I sharpen them with a variety of angles for different materials and so forth but I now have accumulated quite a jar full of little bitty drill bits that are dull. I am refering to 1/8" and smaller.

My question is do any of the Drill Doctors or other drill bit sharpeners do a good job of sharpening the little, bitty bits?

They are a pain in the you-know-what to get sharpened correctly by hand and I am interested to hear about your success stories !!

To date, I just go to the drill bit store and buy more, but can't bring myself to throw out the dull ones. Any help available....??

Cool Re: Drill bit sharpeners, teensy, weensy bits, help !!......

Hi, I have never had much luck resharpening drill bits less than about 3/16 inch. I prefer the sharpener that you mount beside and use with your bench grinder. But even with that the smaller bits are tough to get right. Black and Decker once made a 120 volt sharpening machine, but I did not get good results with one. Best to just buy new ones when needeing any that small.

Have a nice day,

American Science & Surplus in Chicago ( www.sciplus.com ) carries small bits - CHEAP. Here is a current listing I found:
"More Than a Bit of a Bargain
Go find these at a remarkable 39 cents each. A good set of (25) carbide reground drill bits with 1/8" shanks in a plastic case. Diameters range from .024" to .0945". Several will be duplicate sizes.
36468 25 DRILL BITS $9.75 / EACH "
