I was told some of those parts were only stamped with the serial number if the engine had been sent in for a rebuild at the factory as to not confuse the parts with other engines that might be there. Not sure if your engine was ever sent back for any reason.

I went to the Lanesville, IN show today and met up with some old Friends. They had a nice assortment of tractors and engines. While there, I found a friend of mine (his name shall not be mentioned to protect his guilt) and his 18 horse Keck Gonnerman engine. While "inspecting" this fine example of Mt. Vernon's finest, I found this abomination. What the #&*! is that CASE steam gauge doing on this fine specimen?
Our very own KY boiler inspector, Mr. Jordan was present and I pointed it out to him. He sympathized with the KGB, but, as this is Indiana, it was out of his jurisdiction. He went back to running a nice little Garr Scott.
Mr. Scott Thomas, the owner, (Oops, did I say his name?) assured me it was only a temporary thing. He stated his Keck gauge was in the shop being repaired and this was the only one he had to use.
Since he already had steam up and couldn't change it, well, the KGB will let this one pass, this time.

Now why should Mark waste his time worrying about other folk's machinery when he had a few tons worth of Indiana's finest iron and steel at his fingertips? Oh, wait a minute, some folks THINK that Indiana's finest iron and steel didn't come from Richmond.....whoops, did I say that in a KG thread?!?!?! My bad!!!!!!

Keck-Gonnerman steam gauges are actually supposed to work?

In answer to your question, Mark, yes they are. The Keck Gonnerman guage works hard, day in and day out, for years and years. Hard work is all it knows, providing reliable, accurate information for the safe operation of said engine. Therefore, it may, on occasion, need some repairs. The OTHER guage was sitting on a shelf.
If you never do any work, you won't need any repairs.

Thought I would post a couple pics I got on ebay a good while ago. Finally got around to getting them scanned. Do not know much about them except the first on I got from a guy in Seymour IN

Also - posted several pics in the KG gallery - tractors, threshers etc. Anyone have anything they would like to post send them on

Bump
I'm surprised that a KGB agent has not answered this. I can measure the round water tank right away. I will be glad to visit another engine to get dimensions for the platforn if you need it.

How'd you know about that Beth? . . . It's s'posed to be a secret!

by the way, maybe Steve Dunn from out Pawnee way would be a good guy to try and get in touch with about the platform on a rearmount? He did a B-E-A-U-T-I-M-U-S job making the one on his engine!

Doug,

I made coal bunkers for my keck with patern dimensions. Then made a cardboard pattern and took to local shop to have made. I can get dimensions for you if you'd like.

I have a couple of pictures of an original platform. These are of Morris Metzger's 22hp in Boonville in. I have measurements around here somewhere.

Here are some pictures of the platform on a rear mount double no. 1573. I was there to take the governor off for repairs didn't have a chance to get formal measurements.

Here are a few more. There was not a whole lot of room around the engine to get a good angle on it.

KG1793 - This breaks my heart. This engine was my father's pride and joy. He so enjoyed running this engine, but he begged that it be pulled into a barn instead of being allowed to sit out in the elements. My father and I bonded on so many early mornings with this engine, huddled up against the firebox for warmth, sipping coffee and talking.

If that breaks your heart, then knowing it is in England and not the US may break it even further. I do believe it is for sale in the UK for ~60000 pounds

Thanks for the pictures. What horsepower is yours? The riveted
coal bunkers shouldn"t be too hard to make once i know the
dimensions.
