While browsing in a used book store last week, bought some old newspapers including a January 22, 1910 issue of Scientic American that had this photo of a 4 cylinder chain saw on the front page. It was too big for my scanner so used a digital camera and saved the picture to the computer.
There isn't much information on the chainsaw itself but apparently it was developed by R.L. Muir and used two or three men to operate. It would cut through a tree 5' - 7' in diameter in under 10 minutes. Sawing the same diameter of tree by hand would take two men an hour and a half. Bill |
