Hello All,
There is an auction of 50+ H&M engines in Upper Sandusky, OH on Wednesday. The advertising lists names of engines, but is rather vague. I doubt the auctioneer is used to H&M engines. Sounds like mostly common ones, but who knows what is there. If anyone goes, please post results. They have a viewing time today. It's during the week so that cuts me out. I have this terrible habit called work. www.nedsold.com is the auctioneer web site. Best Regards, Donald |

For those who care, Upper Sandusky Ohio is about 50 miles SOUTH of Sandusky Ohio. It's a buckeye thing.

Donald,
Thanks for posting the auctioneer's website!! I was planning on going to this auction and had the newspaper ad saved and then my wife threw it out. I can leave the most unimportant thing on the kitchen counter and it will remain there for weeks, but if I clip an auction ad, it instantly disappears! Go figure.Luckily, I have the week off, so I can go. I will try to record some of the prices, but no guarantees. Mike |

Guy must have really loved John Deere engines judging by the pictures. There's probably a Columbus sitting under that hay pile in the barn.

I just talked to someone who has had the chance to look the stuff over and he said alot of missing parts and rusty stuff.
Oh yeah, no Columbus's under the hay either. ![]() Talked to Jon Rozevink and other several collectors today and sounds like alot of people going with money so doesn't sound like many deals to be had. ![]() Tom Winland Ohio |

tom, nice talking to you and jon.i thought my pockets were deep, the jd people had deeper pockets.lol.for those people that didn,t make it prices were high there were about 20-or more 1 1/2-3 hp jd engines.the 1 1/2hp went for $750-900 complete the 3hp jd $1300-1500. the 6hp went for $4700 best deal of the day i think.a 1 3/4 hercules went for $850. can,t remember what the 2 1/2hp galloway went for i think $950.there was a small 1 1/2? gray i wanted but it went for $1250-1300.so what did chuck buy (a pig in a poke) a 2 1/2 water head associated for $550.but the joke was on me i didn't turn the engine over and look at it real close.after i bought it a guy said to me did you buy that red engine with the bent rod?oh shit oh well when i got home i knew i had some parts for associated engines.had 3 spare rods so the day wasn't all bad except on the way home the ford van brakes failed the front cal.blew out made it home with no brakes.still a bad day at the auctions beats a good day at work.-chuck

Chuck,
Glad you made it home OK with the brake problem. We didn't have any vehicle problems on our trip home, but we sure got some snow while we were gone! I should have bought that Kawasaki Mule with the snow plow! Mike |

Thanks for the post of the auction results.
Again, I ask..... What makes the JD engines bring those prices?!?!?! 1) They aren't unique in design. 2) They don't have many moving parts you can see. 3) JD made a ton of them. 4) Personally commentary...they are ugly. 'The opinion expressed here does not necessarily represent those of our sponsers.' Here is a disclaimer for those that may be offended. Best Regards, Donald |

TWO WORDS JOHN DEERE!!! I have too asked myself this, but what makes a teenage kid who has lived in the city all of their life never got close to a John Deere product except maybe a lawnmower their father bought at Home Depot, go out and spends hundreds of dollars on clothing with the Deere name on it?
I was at a chain clothing store with my wife a week or so ago and they were selling John Deere Baseball caps for $24.95 Damn!!! I thought the engines were overpriced!!!But now I have to admit after owning several Deere's and selling them off my 10 year old son had a fit for one, I was glad he had an interest at all and wound up buying a nice barn fresh 1 1/2 and of course I paid too much but it was for him. I personally don't understand about the price of the six hp Deere I know they did not make as many of them as the smaller ones but, It's just an enlarged copy of the smaller ones??? I could understand it more if it were a different design or something?? Case in point look what a six horse Waterloo Boy is worth vs. a 6 JD E not even in the same ball park I have seen the Waterloos for $1500 in nice shape???? I just don't get it???? Man my head is spinning too much typing!!!!

One thing I have noticed is that there are people who are willing to spend good money on something that they heard was the best. I have talked to several people at shows who were looking for JD's to hook to ice cream freezers because that had been told that was the way to go. Many of these people did not have much exposure to the engine world. I am not and have never been a JD fan as far as freezing cream. To me a good 1 1/2 M is the way to go. I think about my days in the high school chem. lab--Like dissolves like. Seems to hold true. A green JD 1 1/2, 3 or 6 will surely dissolve a bunch of green dead presidents in you wallet.
