Default Another old oilfield engine lives

Well after a year and 5 months another oilfield engine comes back to life. This engine looked pretty bad when i picked it up. Some of you who were at Sistersville in 04 before the flood came might remember it. It's a 10hp Superior engine and power combo. Had to make lots of parts and have the cylinder bored and piston built up but she runs at last. The first start was last sat 2/11/06 but today with the water hooked up i ran it for an hour and a half. Man those gears sure make a lot of noise but that is the way this one is. Sure is a feel good spot when you get a real project to run again. I can't really get a good picture of it where it sets but hopefully i can get a pic of the back end to come up. Just had to brag a little.

Here are some pics of the engine before he restored it to give ya an idea of just how bad it was and how much work he has done on.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I had intended on bringing it back to Sistersville after a year but that didn't happen. I'm planning on haveing it there this year. Sure is a heavy thing. You can see some of the work done on it here. http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/Albu...=31636014&sp=1

Tom: Nice find for someone like Howard. Howard: Nice work on the restoration. I see why it took just awhile to get it done. Nice photo journal Tom and Howard showing it as found in the winter, pulled out through the mud in a tight spot and as it was restored. Man , that's a lot of work .

G'Day Tom
As we would say out here in Oz ripper job mate, but as we don't see anything along the lines of this engine what was it use.I reckon OH&S (occupational health & saftey) would have a field day with that out here,i would say that you would have to have run it in a glass box.
Regards Phillip

I'll try to remember those pics. for you Bill. Sorry. Phillip this engine was designed and built for pumping oil wells. It must have worked very well for years to have the amount of wear on it that it has. I would imagine that the reason that the left bearing cap had been broken at some point was that something went through the gears on that side. While standing there watching it run you must be aware of the danger these open gears present. I still like though.

Paul
Thanks for the encouraging words. I'm sure you know how much fun is involved in bringing one of these old engines back. I also kept a journal every day after the work/fun was done. Hopefully i'll get a story in GEM someday. I tried to do something on it every day except for during the peek show time. Some days that was as little as looking and figuring how to do something, and other days it was all day long. I did most everything myself except for boering the cylinder and piston work. Thanks Craig great job!!
