Default Accumulator Tank Sizing

I am Lining up an Accumulator tank for a 15 hp Reid and would like to know what volume to look for. I was told at least 3 times the cylinder displacement. I have come across several small airtanks but not sure which size (volume) would be best. Thanks for any help, Jim.

Jim

Jamie screwed the valve out of a 20 lb propane bottle this gives you 3/4 " pipe thread. Screw in a short nipple and T. Put a line in from 100lb bottle and line out to engine. Works for us.

Mine is an 8" dia. pipe about 36" long with caps welded to each end and 2" pipe fittings coming off the top near each end (it is horizontal). Seems to be working.

It sure wouldn't need to be 3 times the cyl displacement. The cylinder is drawing in much more air than it is propane. More like a third of cylinder displacement would be plenty I would think. Bill Klein

Isn't this only necessary if the engine is working and drawing a nearly full breath of gas and air? If the engine is restricted enough to run at a slow idle, can it really make a vacuum behind whatever is metering its fuel?
