I am leaving this afternoon for St Louis and will be there through Sunday. I will also be in Las Vegas for 4 days next week. Anyway I was wondering if anyone knows of any steam traction engines or big gas tractors in these areas? I would like to spend some of my idle time looking at something of interest . I know where alot of engines and owners are around the country, but I come up blank knowing anything about these two areas? Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Warren Bellinger |

Hi
warren. If you havent been to the railroad museum in St Louis it is worth the time to go.. I think it is called national museum of transportation.. on SW side of city. They have a big boy there and quite a few steam locomotives. |

Joe Graziano fixed me up pretty good as we spent the majority of the day together on Friday. I got to see 12 engines, 11 of which I had never seen before. The one I had seen before, I was runner up bidder on at a auction a few years ago and it looks entirely different than the last time I saw it.
Thanks Again Joe, Warren Bellinger I figured St, Louis wouls be the easier of the two requests. I have to be in Las Vegas this Friday - next Monday. Does anyone have any recomendations for Sin City? |

I'm afraid that the pickings are kind of sparce. The best I can think of is a trip down to Nelson. It's an old mining area. Not real big on preservation or display but you can tour the mine and they do have interesting stuff around. A couple steam engines and a few gas. It's about an hour drive down there. It would take up most of a day if you are interested. Last time I was there he mentioned a big old steamer out back somewhere. We might be able to talk them into taking a look.

Boulder City is about 30 minutes southeast of Las Vegas on Hwy 93; the Nevada State Railroad Museum has five steam locomotives on display there.
The Sunset Station Hotel in Las Vegas has a small German (Orenstein & Koppel) 0-4-0T; I assume on display somewhere. -James Hefner Hebrews 10:20a Surviving World Steam Project |
