If it's over eight and one-half feet wide, the trucker will need to permit the load for oversize, so that'll bring the rate up. You might try to find an outfit that runs "step decks" which are a common type of flatbed trailer. They're usually forty-eight feet long, so there's the possibility of doing this load "LTL", meaning Less Than TruckLoad. That way he might be able to put another partial load onboard to help offset the costs of trucking. I'm guessing somewhere in the range of three thousand dollars, possibly as low as two-thousand-five hundred
Where are you shipping from and to? They'll need to know dimensions and weights of the engine. Height, width, and length are critical things to know |

MoRo is right, but also they'll need to know info about loading/unloading... time is money in thier eyes... or you may luck out and find someone like me that gives steam guys a big discount... but only around home.

Check with THESE people: Rusty Cat Restorations..........they hauled my Nichols & Shepard for me and were most accommodating........and reasonable.....before $2.50 diesel fuel anyway..............
They haul LOTS of OLD stuff so they KNOW what they're doing.... lito@mabeltel.coop Craig Last edited by Craig A; 03-05-2006 at 02:20 AM. |

Thanks for adding to my post, John. If you can get it to go LTL, see if they can load it on the back of the trailer. They'll know it's a tractor of some kind. It'll be up to you to provide method and facilities for unloading. An implement dealer near you should have an unloading ramp available, as the tractors they get in from the factory often come in on dropdecks, like the ones I described. Dropdeck trailers Drop from standard height, right behind the drive wheels of the semi tractor that pulls them. The rear wheels on these trailers are usually a 17" tire, so that'll give you an idea how low these guys ride.
