its interesting that the engine that sold at Houston 6 flags earlier was serial # 8478 (15hp compound) and this one is #8473 (5 numbers difference). Makes you wonder if the same fellow ordered them.

Looks like this one has had a little easier life than the 6 flags Case...

Does this not look like the simular engine at six flags I am guessing it is the same engine all dolled up, I believe Ken looked at the serial number and thought it could be a 8

I'm with you, its the same machine all dolled up. Notice the steam pump on it and displacement lubrictator. What are the chances of engines being at the same place, similarly equipped, being at auction via the company that sold the Astro world engine.

I tend to agree with everyone else on here. There was some question with regards to the Six Flags engine's serial #. I have to admit, the paint looks very fresh, perhaps not even dry yet .

Well... When that engine was on Ebay I blew up the tag and I thought it said 9478 which according to Chuck comes back to a 1901 ? 12 Hp.

The auctioneer is Ritche Bros who sells industrial/construction equipment all over the country... And yes I think they do have a painting crew... Looks like a Dupont overhaul to me with the new boards nailed to the platform and all. It would be fun to know what it sells...??? for This Time.

For Colin: they may turn out too small maybe you can save them and make them bigger on your computer, or email me I can sent the full size if you need, this is all I saved and dont even ask why, I know I need to get a life.

After comparing the photos from Glenn and the one in the first post, I smell something funny and it is not coal smoke from that engine! If a person is going to try and make some money off of someone by trying to pull a fast one and painting something they over paid for to begin with, they should at least try and get the paint colors correct…………………. Good thing we have this board to help protect the steam community! Thanks Harry!

I still think its the same one they both have that goofy old throttle, and a 4 bolt cover on the end of the heater. too bad theres still no word on the boiler condition. Im almost wondering is this engine is old enough to be painted all red. at least someone will get a better looking ornament this time

Question Re: Texas engine at Auction

A friend has pointed out something. Now, I own Frick engines, so I'm not really familiar with Case engines, so I'll let the Case lovers answer this: Do Case engines always stop with the crank in the same position, or is this engine stuck?

I called a friend of mine with Ritchie and he confirmed that it is the one from Six Flags and that the serial number is 8473. They are well known for their DuPont overhauls and this is no exception. I bought a lot of equipment from these people over the years and know how they operate. The tractor will be sold where is as is. They do not have a min. bid so it all depends on who shows up to bid on it and how bad they want it. Most of the people at these auctions are in the construction business and wont bid on it. You can register with Ritchie and watch the auction on line. The auction book is not yet available, it will list what will be sold each day. I will keep looking and can tell by where its listed in the book about what time it will sell. These guys sell about 100 items an hour, so if you blink you will miss what is going on.

Mark that was an obvious thing to comapre and i missed it Looks like the same position. They should have at least unstuck it if they were going to paint it up like that.
thanks for the update John. it will be interesting to see what it brings. seems like theres never many old engines sell at auction.

This engine is on the auction block today, Thursday, March 30. It will be sold somewhere between 9:30 and 10 am. As soon as I have a sale price i will post it. There is no way to know who bought it unless someone is there in person and asks the buyer directly.

Well, at least this time if it sells, someone will have a prettier piece of yard art than if they left it rusty like last time they tried to sell it!

Case Steam Traction Engine Lot # 881 at the Houston, TX auction sold for $20,500.00 to bidder #352. I hope he knows what he bought.
