Some people are just low...
My brother and I are lucky enough to have the opportunity to retrieve some antique items from a barn nearby before it is burnt. There were a couple pumpjacks, a fanning mill, some team yokes, things like that. What were really wanted though was a cloverleaf hay carrier, in excellent shape. We did as much as we could last night, and came back this morning, even though it is raining. We had everything setting outside the barn and went home to get the tractor and trailer (its really muddy there). We went back, and went to load the two sections of track that we'd dug out, as the barn has fallen in, and the carrier was gone! Whoever it was left the rope and both sections of track, but stole the carrier. Burns my ass...

and the thing that burns is that there is practically no way to find out who stole it. my mini bike was stolen one time, they broke in the shop with bolt cutters, SOME NERVE! and took my mini bike, this was 5 years ago but till this day it still gripes my ass
we called the local fuz but they did nothing more than file a report. you know, it dont pay to charge your phone bill to call the cops, all's they do is file a report...thats it. well.....thanks.........ya right they have to be RIGHT THERE to do anything as to search and or arrest the crook! or they wont do anything, but ofcource, now that i think about it, a cop wouldn't be able to do any more than i could....it's not like the theives to cover up there tracks with a paint trail with arrows saying HERE I AM! once it's gone...it's gone.......and no trail to track them....they up and vanish like a fart in the wind. |

I know what you mean! About ten years ago I had a motorcycle stolen from my garage and knew who stole it and they still couldn't find it or do anything for me!!
This guy was a real winner! He used a crowbar to pry open the rollup door on my garage, tore up the door and the track. All he had to do was turn the handle IT WASN'T LOCKED!!!!I got the last laugh, two months later he was caught stealing from a constuction Co. for the third time, he got 10 - 15 years!! Two years later a friend found my bike in a gulley about a quartermile from where the dirtbag lived! Not much left to work with, but at least I got it back!! Just lucky I guess. Bill

When I was still in high-school, a local dirtbag ripped a friend and I off for over $3,000 in tools, and a lot of engine parts, including a prototype B&S 5-S that was designed to run on alcohol. (the engine had special machining and parts) My mom almost caught the ba---rd, as he was stealing the spotlights off my garage (she said she had whacked him in the head with a broom handle, but he ran off.)
Each time he broke into our garages, he did severe damage to the locking mechanisms, and my friend's father had to replace the roll up door to his garage. We figured that it was someone we knew, as the second time my friend was ripped off, his german shepard didn't even bark! The SOB broke in a total of 5 times-between us. The cops were called, and reports taken, but because the 'take' was under $1,000, at each visit, the cops told out parents to have the homeowners insurance pay for it. With a $500 deductable, each time, how much do you think we got??? I learned from another friend, where the tools and the engine was. I told the cops where the stolen goods were, and they refused to act, saying that finding the stuff on hearsay was not admissable in court. My friend John and I had scribed our names on the tools, when we bought them, and we had receipts. I also had a receipt for the engine, with the S/N on it. I took my car and drove over to the perp's house, and noticed a garage sale, with a lot of our stuff on the ground. I opened my trunk, and began loading all my tools into it, and john began to do the same. I also spotted the engine (with a now broken crank), mounted on a minibike. I promptly began dismounting it. At this time, the thief ran inside, and got his father, who began yelling at us, telling us to return the tools and leave, or he was going to call a cop. I looked the old man right in the eye, and said "Go right ahead! I really want a cop here, don't you too John? (to my friend.) Several other people were there, and a few had tools in their hands, and a few less even had cash out. John told them, "If you see the names Andy M-----, or John C---- on the tools, when the cops get here, you will be charged with receiving stolen merchandise, and I've got your plate #s" needless to say, the tools were dropped post haste. At this, the old man went storming into the house, and I heard him yelling into the phone, he wanted Art the cop here right now. (turns out that was why the dog didn't bark, his kid knew the thief that ripped us off, and Art was John's neighbor) Anyways, Art the cop shows up, and sees us loading the now broken B&S into the trunk of my car. The old man stomps out of the house, yelling at him to do something. Well, Art comes up to us, and says "what are you doing guys?" "Recovering stolen property" we replied, in unison. At this time the police Sargent arrived (who was MY neighbor, to see what all the fuss was about. I showed the 2 cops all our receipts, and the tools, where we had engraved our names on the stuff, and I showed them the receipt for the engine. They asked dirt bag where he got the tools from, and he told them he found them in the brook, that ran through both our properties. I asked the sarge if I could call my mom, as she had seen, and whacked the perp, and dirt bag was standing there with a nasty bruise on his arm, and the side of his head. Mom saw the thief, and she can identify him, I told the cops. At this, dirtbag ran off, with his old man yelling after him. I ended up going home, and brought mom back with me. She spotted some gardening tools, her grandfather had made, and promptly picked them up, and threw them in the car as well. The old man begins yelling at the cops again, saying WE are stealing HIS tools! In the mean time, dirtbag peeks around the corner to see what the fuss is about, and my mom spotted him. I have never seen a 325 pound woman move so fast in my life (and I bet dirtbag didn't either ) She caught up to him before he got 20 feet, and picked him up by the back of his shirt, clean off the ground! "Gotcha this time you slimy Son of a B---h" she yelled. The cops just stood there dumbfounded, as she hauled the perp back to where we were standing, by the scruff of his shirt. She threw his a$$ on the ground in front of the cops, and said " I want this SOB arrested for trespassing, breaking and entering, burglery, and grand theft of property!" "You can add resisting citizens arrest too", she added. The old man said "On what grounds" - Big mistake! You don't mess with Ma when she's P.O.ed. Ill give you what grounds, she says, I caught this little snot ripping off my garage 2 days ago, he still has the bruise from my broomstick on the side of his face. Can he sit down yet, because I gave him a better one right accross the cheeks of his stupid a$$, It broke my new broom handle didn't it?" she asked dirtbag. DB was now crying big alligater tears, sitting on his butt. "Why don't you pull down his pants, and take a look" mom asked Art. Sarge says " I don't think thats nescessary", to mom, while looking at DB. The old man asked the kid what he was crying for, he didn't do anything wrong, did he? And DB just sat there weeping. Whats a matter with you, he yells at the kid, and DB replies "My butt still hurts where she whacked me", he replied. All of a sudden it got real quiet. Even mom shut up! The look on the old mans face was priceless! "What does it take, to make this go away?", he said in a low voice. We want all out tools back, as well as all the engine parts. "And I want to be paid for a new crankshaft for my engine" I added. DB says "aw, that thing was a piece of s--t anyhow, when it ran out of gas, I filled it, and it wouldn.t start". "Is that why you broke the crank?" I asked. He just looked. I told the old man - "If he had bothered to smell the fuel, he might have niticed that this engine doesn't run on gas - it uses alcohol." We managed to retrieve about 80% of the tools, those we couldn't prove were ours (like a brand new ring compressor, and a new Starret Michrometer set I had bought the night before it got ripped off) had to be left behind. It took me 6 months to get the 48 dollars for the crank, and it was almost 5 years later I finally got it, as B&S no longer had it in stock at the time. I finally got a NOS Crank from Charley Stuart, Here in NJ. DB got his a few years later. He was caught 4 times ripping off cars, and the 5th time, ended in a high speed chase. He hit a telephone pole right in his front yard, the cops figured he was going at least 80 in a 25. It wasn't the speed that got him, it was the sudden stop at the end - permanantly. (the car dead centered the pole - put the engine into the front seat, which happened to be the drivers position.) P.S. I am still POed that the SOB broke that crank Andrew |

I don't know that committing your desire to see certain people dead to writing is quite the way to go.

HoMade, you're right. I'm thinking that both Sky and Andrew feel some better now that they've blown off some steam. They are right to feel violated though.

well, if you were to hand build a mini bike and pour a decent size of money in it just to have some jerk steal it, you would know why i say what i say.
but on the same token, im not trying to be disrespectful. |

Well Craig... that's the thing, I didn't tell anybody. I've had that crap happen before. We're thinking now that maybe the antique dealer that bought the beams out of the barn might have stopped by. They would have known it was there. That's still cold though... Its the idea that we were out there in the rain workin on that stuff and somebody just stopped by and took it. Oh well... what comes around goes around, maybe we'll see it at a flea market or something.

I'm just saying....if a guy shows up hurt...or worse....you don't want your desire to see that done out there for all the world to see.

I did not by any means, mean that harm should come to any one who steals, I was just stating what happened to that particular individual. Any one who has been ripped off, probably feels voilated in one way or another. It's a shame that some people just have no respect. Most people have good sense, but as in anything else, there are always a few bad apples, even in our hobby. It is unfortunate, but true. Most of the people I have met are finest kind, and I know I will meet, or contact many more.

I sure did when they broke into my house stealing my stuff. Not once, not twice, but three times. I know who did it but does not seem to interest the cops much. I started the thread "Power out thieves on the lose" http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56851 "Things" I have no use for!!! Women & Child abusers/molesters! Animal abusers! Thieves! Liers! Lawers! Doctors! Cops that do not to carry out their SWORN DUTIES!!! |

About 10 years ago now, I had one of my ATVs stolen from my shed behind my house. I have never felt so violated in my life. I could not believe someone came on to my property and took it. I had an idea who did it too but nothing more than that. Cops filed their report. And to add insult to injury, had I told the insurance company I used it to pull a wagon around the yard it would have been covered. Guess I should have looked at my insurance policy closer before I called.

We had a gun bandito around here who stole from me, his father, and anyone else he knew wasn't gonna be home. When caught after being trapped (driveway blocked) he was wearing coveralls with the owners hunting license on the back from a previous B&E with a stolen gun from from the owner who set him up. Did a few years but nobody got anything back.

A reliable source told me that the scumbag that broke into my old house told him that he was pissed because someone stole his buddies 500 gallon water tank, and that he had to go and "take" it back. Funny thing, I know his buddy (old neighbor, yes also a thief) and he told me he sold the tank for cash.

I knew a guy down here. Had a guy come in his shop. The guy kept looking around made my friend nervous. So my friend lays down some boards that night with nails sticking up at the bay door. Came to work the next morning to find the guys truck sitting in the bay with four flat tires. He had a real hard time telling the cops how it got there and how the nail hole got in his shoe.
