A friend just purchased this potato "lifter" (not to be confused with a beat lifter as beats were never raised in this area) at a local auction. As a potato grower he is interested in learning what the "rest of the story" is about this tool such as the beam, bracing, etc:

I have a potato "Plow" that I have used at different times to dig my potatos and I hope that this is of help to you. The beam is about 5 foot long and was a 4x8 piece of oak, I had to replace it when I broke the old one. The idea of the rods was to sift the potatos up out of the dirt or as you said lift them.
