What is the best way to clean up minor rust on my MetalCraft Lathe without taking material off?

What is the best way to clean up minor rust on my MetalCraft Lathe without taking material off?

How about some Scotchbright and WD-40? It will give it a satin finish but won't remove enough material to measure.
