I live in the UK and I am looking for some 40x8 (24"Rim) 16 Ply tyres for my Sentinel Steam Waggon.
In the UK there is one company I can find who do them made by Goodrich but they charge £869 ($1500) Each! Coker tires in the USA have them at £404 ($709) Each, Problem is they wont deal directly with anyone from the UK. In anyones terms this is a huge markup just to ship them accross the Atlantic. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can obtain these tires at a more reasonable cost? Kind Regards Jerry Hawkins |

We have bought a lot of gear from the USA over the years, and by far and away the best way is to get someone over in the USA to organise the buying and shipping for you, which I assume is what you are looking for.
We also have been over in the USA a lot in the past few years, about 7 or 8 visits, mainly to Portland, Tulare and aero museums. We have made a lot of friends and contacts during those trips and via the engine lists and other furums. That's what you need now, some one who can negotiate on your behalf and once bought, ship the tyres over to the UK by surface freight. You didn't mention where the tyres company were located, if it came to a pinch you could 'probably' fly over, do the deal and arrange the shipping in a couple of days and still be in pocket, but it would take some forethought and planning. Good luck! Peter |

Coker tyres have two company sites,
Coker Tire’s worldwide headquarters is located at 1317 Chestnut Street in downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. Coker Tire California, located at 5468 East Lamona in Fresno, California They state that although distributers are located accross the US, the prices may be higher than quoted for various taxes, transport etc. So I would guess if anyone knows someone who lives near the main Coker offices that would be ideal. |
