Thanks fellows for helping me with the burr plates on my Bell burr mill. new ones shipped from bell last week. i repoured babbitt tonight.....seems there should be a spring around the shaft of the mill trying to keep the burr plates seperated...something for the adjustment screw to push against. Can anyone advise please? Thanks.

Hay buddy,
On mine there is no spring that holds the plates apart. The corn dose that. I am emailing you some pic of the screw on mine. So check your email for them. Should help you out a bit.

Kevin is correct. Many people think that there should be a spring to keep the plates separated, but there is none. The corn, wheat, oats, whatever does that for you. You only need to supply pressure to keep them together to maintain a uniform and consistent grind, not to keep them apart.
