Default LeBlond lathes must be popular here

I'd say I am the new kid on the block , but I have been reading the posts
for a while .
Last weekend I hauled home a 31" swing LeBlond , looks like it will handle
about 10' between centers . It needs quite a bit of tlc ,mostly cleaning and
lubing although some paint would help . It should add some capacity to the
shop and be the big brother to my 26" , 20" , and 14" lathes .
I have it in the shop but not in its' location , that will take some doing .
I did take some pictures of it where we unloaded it . Not sure the bridge
cranes will handle the headstock end to position it .

Very handy to have a workshop that size! :-))

LeBlond have a huge reputation amongst industrial and home users, and there are quite a few over here in the UK still in use.

Nice big old lathe. If you haven't tried yet, contact LeBlond with your serial number handy and they might have the history of it in their recrds. They have records for my 17" made in 1942. Good luck with the cleanup.

Paul,
I have it moved into position , the bridge cranes carried it but I don't
think they wanted any more . I don't have it leveled or wired yet , too
many other things going on .
Where on the lathe did you find the ser # and how to contact leblond ?

Hi George, the serial number on mine is between the ways at the tailstock end and on the cairrage top near the cross slide.Seems to me I also found it on some other major parts. The response email I got from LeBlond was from Roger Virgin @ 888-532-5663 (extension 210) or rvirgin@leblondusa.com Good luck, Paul.

George, the number on mine is D6627, but it is newer than yours. Your number seems to be like like the one on an old Monarch lathe I have, maybe LeBlond used the same system of numbers back then. Give it a try and let us know what you find out.

Hi George,
Yup, That is your serial number.
My LeBlond lathe has a serial number of Lot 2 No. 4
That is a number even the LeBlond folks didn't know about. It is VERY early.
Does yours have a patent number on it?
Mine just says Patent Applied For.
Is there any other name on it?
Mine was sold by E.A. Kinsey.

You probably have already read my post that I made when I brought mine home.

Paul & Alan,

I talked to leblond yesterday , and his best guess is that it was

made about 1903 . The fact it is 31" swing bothered him though , but

there just isn't enough room for 32 " and it had a 31" face plate with

it .

As for patent #'s , it has 6 on the brass threading info plate ,

but not dates .
